WHERE THE SUN HIDES

EXCERPT

He didn’t know her.
He knew nothing about her.
And his words ached.
Reaction from pure fury alone was the only excuse Violet had for her next actions. With her hand free, he had left himself exposed. Before she could properly think over what she was doing, she smacked his hand out of her face with a huff.
Kaz dropped her other hand, surprised.
She was raising it just as fast.
When it cracked across his cheek, the sound reverberated in the condo.
Nothing else made a noise.
He didn’t even breathe as he took a single step back, his thumb stroking his jaw as his stare focused in on her again.
She didn’t move an inch.
Violet knew better than to hit a man when he was in a rage. A normal man would walk away, but a man prone to violence might not.
She opened her mouth to speak—not to apologize, but to tell him to leave—but she didn’t get the chance to say a thing. Kaz was on her before she had even blinked.
His hands were at the top of her throat, forcing her head up as he crowded her to the wall again. Violet’s eyes widened, her heart racing as she felt his long fingers tighten just enough to scare her.
“Don’t hit me,” he said.
Violet tensed as his hands began to move down her throat with a slowness that made her shudder. Maybe it was the roughness of his skin, or the heat of his palms dragging down the column of her neck, but his touch didn’t quite feel threatening like it first had.
She sucked in a deep breath when his thumbs rested against the hollow of her throat. He didn’t press to cut off her windpipe, but rather, just let his thumbs rest there like they could hurt her with her next blink.
“I didn’t lie,” she told him. “And I didn’t know she did.”
Kaz’s gray stare never wavered from hers. “It’s easier for me to believe otherwise.”
“That’s something you’ll have to deal with, I guess.”
Her words were bravado, and very little else. It was getting more difficult by the second to ignore the shake in her hands or the pulsing ache between her thighs.
This was not good at all.
“This could be so easy,” Kaz said, still watching her in that way of his. “Just a little press of my fingers right here, and then what you did is answered for.”
“Except I didn’t do it.”
His lips parted to speak again, but he hesitated.
“I didn’t,” she repeated. “And you won’t hurt me for not doing anything at all.”

Gun Moll Reveal Banner

Gun Moll Cover
Gun Moll by Bethany-Kris & Erin Ashley Tanner Gun Moll, #1
Publication Date: May 23, 2016
Genres: Interracial Romance, Erotic Romance, Organized Crime

Synopsis

James “Mac” Maccari’s career in the mafia is at a standstill. As the best solider in his Capo’s crew, all he wants is to be noticed enough to get Made in the Pivetti Crime Family. But instead, his Capo’s interests seem more focused on keeping his solider hidden from the boss, and every other Made man he can. Seemingly stuck right where he is with no chance of going up, Mac doesn’t know what will finally get him the attention he needs to earn his button.

Until she shows up and all eyes are on them …

Melina Morgan survives—that’s just what she does. She’s never been able to depend on anyone but herself to keep her safe and get things done. When a chance encounter puts her in a bad situation with the cops and the mafia, Melina has no choice but to put her faith in the hands of a man that not only infuriates her with his cocky arrogance, but catches her interest, too. Playing pretend in a fake relationship with Mac doesn’t seem all that terrible, until pretend turns real and bullets start to fly.

A man is nothing without his woman …

When the attention on Mac and Melina turns from bad to worse, and someone in the Pivetti Crime Family decides the couple needs to go, they know they’re fighting an uphill battle alone. But making it to the end alive means Mac could get what he’s always wanted, and Melina might find what she didn’t even know she needed.

Together, they’ll make waves the mafia has no choice but to notice …

EXCERPT

“A good man always takes care of his girl,” Mac said quietly.
Melina’s eyes opened again at those words. “But I’m not really your girl, Mac.”
“So? I should still take care of you.”
“What if I was?”
“My girl?” Mac asked.
“Yes.”
Mac cocked a brow, eyeing Melina as she grabbed a loofa off the ledge of the tub and began dropping dollops of milky colored body wash onto the frilly cloth. “I don’t understand what you’re asking.”
Melina drew the loofa over her arms, covering her slick skin in white suds. “If I was your girl, then what would you do, Mac?”
Ah.
Mac smiled, leaned forward, and snatched the loofa from Melina’s hand. He ignored her quiet ‘hey’ and started running the loofa up and down her legs with smooth, long strokes.
“Mac, I asked you a question,” Melina said.
“I would spoil you rotten,” Mac said, shooting her a look through his hair that had fallen down over his gaze. “Whatever you wanted, whether you needed it or not, I would make it happen. I’d make damn sure you felt as beautiful as you looked, regardless of what you needed to feel that way. I’d take you out every chance I could just to show you off to the people who can’t have you because you’re all mine. But I’d have my fucking hands on you all night so that they knew to stay away. It’d probably feel like my fingerprints were burned into your skin because I’d be holding you that tight.”
Melina’s tongue peeked out to wet her bottom lip. “What else?”
“I’d always keep an eye on you, even if you didn’t know I was doing it, just to make sure you were good and safe. I’d wake you up in the morning, every single morning, with my hands all over you and my mouth kissing all the spots I could find. I’d make sure that whenever you were stressed out, or something was on your mind, bothering you, that you could take some time away from life and the world to be just you again. Simple stuff, you know.”
“Simple.” Melina scoffed. “Right. That sounds more like worshipping, Mac.”
Mac didn’t see the difference. “If a man cares enough, worshipping his woman should be the simplest, easiest, and most obvious thing for him to do every day, doll. She should be the most important thing on his mind. The first and last thing he considers every day and night.”
Melina’s gaze flitted from Mac’s face and then down to the bubbly water. “Oh.”
Oddly, it bothered Mac like nothing else that he could tell Melina had never been given the pleasure of having a man treasure her like she should be treasured. No one had every loved her enough to worship the very ground she walked on, or had seen her for the beautiful gift she truly was.
It nagged in his chest.
Poked at him like a needle.
Over and over.
Like a damned tattoo was being penned permanently to his skin, reminding him that Melina deserved someone who would treasure and treat her the way she should be cared for. Didn’t he have enough going on where this girl was concerned without adding something like that to the pile as well?
Mac sighed, shaking off the strange feeling. “I suppose it doesn’t matter, anyway.”
Melina sucked in a quiet breath before asking, “Why not?”
“You’re not mine, doll. Or at least, you don’t want to be.”
Melina didn’t respond, but she wouldn’t meet Mac’s eyes again.
He continued washing her stress away.
Mac didn’t need a response.

Thin Lies Cover
THIN LIES by Bethany-Kris Donati Bloodlines, #1
Publication Date: May 2, 2016
Genres: Romantic Suspense, Erotic Romance, Organized Crime

SYNOPSIS

  Calisto Donati
She was just a woman. That’s what Calisto wanted to tell himself; that’s what he wanted to believe. Emma was nothing more than a woman. There were other women for him to want. To obsess over. It couldn’t be Emma Sorrento. Not for Calisto. She was taken. She was claimed. She was not his. In a few days, Calisto would hand her off, and that would be that. He wondered why it wouldn’t be that easy to let her go. What good had saving her done? He had simply taken her from one monster to give her to another.

  Emma Sorrento
Emma slid on her mask. All someone would need to do was look close enough to see what was really beneath the sheer falseness of her smile. At the other end of the table, Emma found her lies staring her right in the face. He smirked. And winked. Calisto Donati was her worst mistake, her greatest shame, and the one thing she still wanted more than anything. Emma could still feel him all over her, long after his touch and kiss was gone. In thirty days, her entire world had changed—he had changed her. Emma had a feeling that if she played another game with Calisto, she would surely lose. She had already lost once. Wasn’t it enough?

WARNING: The first two books in the Donati Bloodlines Trilogy end on a cliffhanger, and are not considered safe romance.

“It does hurt me,” Calisto said before he could stop himself.
He wanted to take the words back immediately.
Emma stilled in the passenger seat. “Then why play?”
To remember.
To punish himself.
To apologize.
“For a lot of different reasons,” Calisto settled on saying. “But tonight, I played so that you wouldn’t have to. You didn’t seem comfortable. I didn’t think you wanted to have everyone looking at you after what happened. It was a small sacrifice.”
“But you hurt now,” she said, seeming confused. “Don’t you?”
“But you didn’t have to.”
For Calisto, that was all that mattered.
Turning his head, Calisto stared out the opened driver’s window. He wondered if anyone had noticed that both he and Emma had left the dinner party without a goodbye. He supposed it didn’t make a difference.
Calisto didn’t mind Emma’s presence disturbing his peace, either.
“Calisto?” Emma asked softly.
“Hmm?”
Her hand rested on his thigh, and Calisto jerked in the seat at the innocent touch. The problem was, her touch couldn’t be innocent at all. Not with the way he currently felt, the things he had done, or the lines he had already crossed with a mighty “fuck you.” He hadn’t been expecting it, and he didn’t even hear Emma move in her seat.
Calisto barely had the chance to spin around and face Emma again before her mouth pressed against his. It was soft at first, smooth like her plump lips, and then her fingers dug into his leg like she was demanding something from him.
He didn’t know what it was.
Instinctively, Calisto wanted to push her away. He wanted to kiss her back, too. The crazy side of his brain won, the side that listened to his selfish wants and not his needs.
Or maybe he needed it, too.
Calisto didn’t know.
But he did grab onto Emma’s dress. He fisted the fabric around his taut knuckles, and pulled her a little closer. His tongue swept the seam of her lips, wanting more, needing to be deeper, seeking her heat and taste.
A little wouldn’t hurt, right?
Just a little more.
Emma sighed a sweet sound, giving into his unspoken demand by parting her lips. Calisto took the offering for what it was, kissed her harder, and let his tongue war with hers until she was gasping for air. Pulling away enough to catch a breath, Emma tipped her head up and hummed.
Calisto couldn’t help himself but lean forward and kiss her chin.
He was fucking stupid.
Why did she make him so stupid?
“I should go in and say goodbye,” he heard Emma say.
Calisto was too distracted by the flimsy fabric of her dress in his hands. A little pull with just enough strength and he knew that the dress would rip. She was close, and he could grab her around the waist before pulling her into the backseat.
The windows were tinted.
No one would see.
A little more wouldn’t hurt.
